Orangutan Used Medicinal Plant To Treat Wound, Researchers Say

Orangutans are smarter than we thought - maybe even smart enough to become doctors.

Researchers in Sumatra, Indonesia say an orangutan named Rakus was seen using a medicinal plant to treat its injured face.

Rakus would chew leaves of the liana plant - a known pain reliever - and apply the paste to his wounds.

It's the first time humans have witnessed an animal using medicine to treat a wound.

Some experts have theorized that humans first learned medicine by observing other species.
